Welcome to Edgehill Early Learning Center

About Us

Edgehill Early Learning Center officially opened in September 2018. EELC was the direct result of need and interest expressed by the mothers in the adjacent Edgehill neighborhood. These mothers formed a monthly parenting support group at the Edgehill United Methodist Church. Encouraged by each other and the Church, the mothers wanted a weekly program designed to meet the needs of their pre-school aged children. Edgehill Early Learning Center is the answer to that request.

Edgehill Early Learning Center is made possible through the unwavering support of the Edgehill United Methodist Church, which provides space for our program, and Nancy Crutcher, the director of Neighborhood Ministries for Edgehill United Methodist Church, coordinator of Moms of Edgehill, and director of Brighter Days children’s ministry. Funding for Edgehill Early Learning Center is through the Edna Thomas Fund of The Community Foundation of Nashville.

Edna Thomas grew up in Hillsboro Village and was raised with her two siblings by a single mother. She was trained as a social worker, was a fabulous mother, active community volunteer, and faithful member of Belmont United Methodist Church until she passed away far too young due to breast cancer at the age of 60. Edna’s family created this fund to honor her memory by helping parents raise healthy children. For the first 14 years, the Edna Thomas Fund held an annual parenting lecture series that brought nationally-known parenting authors to Nashville. The focus shifted after Edna’s daughter volunteered as a tutor with the Brighter Days program and noticed the effects of the lack of available preschool education in the community. Feeling passionately about the importance of early childhood experiences and learning, particularly from birth to age 3, she felt it was a fitting tribute to her mom to shift the focus of the fund to benefit children and parents in the Edgehill community. Connecting with Nancy at Edgehill UMC was the next step. Nancy’s experience, compassion and tireless work in the Edgehill community was invaluable.  With all of the components coming together, the vision of Edgehill Early Learning Center is becoming a reality! To learn more or donate to The Edna Thomas Fund/Edgehill Early Learning Center" please visit our website at: it https://www.cfmt.org/giving-and-investing/become-a-donor/give-to-a-fund/edna-s-thomas-fund/
